In this video, from the series “AJA Intercultural Dialogues: Contributions on Access to Justice in the Americas”, the researchers from the University of Ottawa Gloria Song and Melisa Handl give an overview of their investigation about the difficulties that Guyanese women, victims of domestic violence, encounter to get refugee status in Canada.

The research juxtaposes the narratives of those working to provide protection to victims of domestic violence in Guyana with ideological accounts of law, understood as being institutionally oriented, and thus denying rights to these women.
