Meeting of Social Movements for the election of the External Ombudsman’s DP / RJ

In a meeting that was attended by social housing movements, maroon, street vendors, among others, as well as civil society organizations such as Global Justice CEJIL and DDH were clarified doubts about the tender for the Ombudsman Election Public Defender . There were about 20 people representing 14 organizations.
Following, was articulated an effort of mobilization for September 8 (the second meeting), for which it intends to rely on the participation of former and current ouvidoras of Defenders of other State through virtual: Luciana Zaffalon (Former SP ), Denise Dora (RS) and Ana Virginia (formerly CE). It also intends to rely on the participation of Rodrigo de Medeiros, popular lawyer and member of the Justice Forum that accompanied the Ombudsman election procedure in Ceará and Rio Grande do Sul.
It was raised also the possibility of inviting a representative of the administration of the Public Defender in order to introduce the commitment to structure and strengthen the Ombudsman and above all to be strengthened mobilization and dialogue of civil society against the institution in the process.
The Justice Forum defended the need to build a common platform of social movements that can serve as a basis for possible candidates. Another point suggested was the establishment of an advisory board composed of representatives of movements and civil society organizations to assist and support the Ombudsman, the lines of what takes place in São Paulo and Bahia.
